It appears that Microsoft has been experimenting with a specialized version of Windows designed specifically for handheld computers. The famous Microsoft leaker Walkingcat has obtained material from an internal hackathon at Microsoft last September, which shows that there was clearly interest in improving the functionality of the operating system on handheld computers.

Windows works not so good on the market leader Steam Deck, which usually uses the Linux-based Steam OS, but it is therefore not a version of Microsoft’s operating system intended for handheld computers. Whether the suggestions from the hackathon progressed to actual development is unclear, but there are quite a few devices that could utilize the OS, such as the upcoming Asus Rog Ally.
