The police are increasing the pressure to control drug traffickers. Drivers keep trying to deceive the police with fake urine.

The number of drug traffickers who are caught during police checks is increasing. In the previous year there were 512 reports of driving under the influence of drugs – more than twice as many as in 2021. Again and again attempts are made to deceive the police with fake urine.

“Recurs again and again”

As the police confirmed to VOL.AT, drug drivers try to avoid a positive urine test. This is also confirmed by Horst Spitzhofer from the press office of LPD Vorarlberg. “It happens again and again,” he explains in an interview with VOL.AT. “People are inventive,” he says. “But you can’t speak of an accumulation at the moment.”

Doctors see through deception

Attempts are being made to deceive the police during controls. However, there are always doctors on site during the focus checks. “They recognize the shame and look at it,” Spitzhofer explains. A doctor also smells what is supposed to be urine to see whether it is actually urine.

doctor decides

Whether a handlebar is unfit to drive is not decided solely by a positive urine test. Finally, the doctor present decides whether the driver can continue driving. If the suspicion of impairment is substantiated, an examination is carried out, in which blood is also drawn. But criteria such as tiredness and the ability to concentrate are also decisive.
