With the end of Stadia, many users have warned of the obsolescence of the controller of the streaming video game service. But the developers will integrate a Bluetooth connection.

There are only a few hours left before Stadia shuts down. Google’s video game streaming service will shut down Thursday, January 19 at 8:59 a.m. If the announcement had called into question the emergence of cloud gaming, users had more down-to-earth considerations. What to do with their Stadia controller?

Google developers have assured that the controllers Bluetooth connection is going to be unlocked. “We will share details next week on how to use this feature,” said service blog. The object must thus become usable, via a wireless connection, on platforms other than Stadia.

A previously limited connection

When it was launched in November 2019, Google’s promise caused a stir: play video games without a console or computer. But not without a controller. This is why the offer included a Chromecast Ultra (to view its games on its television screen), but also a dedicated controller.

Only problem, the Bluetooth connection of this element was limited to the only use with Stadia. Players then complained that their controller became unusable once the cloud gaming service closed permanently. A wired connection could still allow use on a PC, Mac or smartphone.

With this latest update, Stadia controllers will be able to survive the end of service. A decision that will prevent peripherals from gathering dust, or ending up in the trash.
