Since leaving FC Bayern, Jérôme Boateng’s career has suffered a severe setback. At Olympique Lyon, the 2014 world champion never found his way back to success. Therefore, the liaison between the central defender and the French first division team could soon be over.
After FT-Lyon wants to give Boateng the go-ahead should he be given the opportunity to leave the club in winter. Olympique would waive a transfer fee, Boateng’s contract expires in the summer anyway. The French would be happy to remove the 34-year-old from the payroll with his generous salary.
Salary an eyesore
The officials of Ligue 1 bottom of the table are even actively working towards this scenario. Meanwhile, an unknown interest has already contacted Boateng’s advisors. How far the talks have progressed has not yet been leaked.
Terminating Boateng’s contract would give the Rhône Valley club more leeway for signings. In terms of quality, Boateng has degraded compared to his time at Bayern. In 31 competitive games for Lyon, he was rarely able to completely convince. Instead, he has recently made headlines in the tabloids.
