The giant behind (among other things) Dungeons and Dragons seems to have tightened the belt a bit and chosen to scrap five unannounced games that were in development. This according to a report from Forbes which mentions that it is most likely ongoing projects at Otherside Entertainment and Hidden Path Entertainment, two studios owned by Wizards of the Coast. In a statement to IGN, the company announced the following.

“Wizards of the Coast remains committed to using digital games as a cornerstone of its strategy for bringing its games to players around the world. The cancellations are part of changes being made to the company’s long-term portfolio, which will focus on games strategically aligned with existing brands and those that show promise.”

Hasbro and Wizards have invested heavily in development and studios over the past five years in pursuit of success in the gaming industry, but now seem to be choosing to scale back their ambitions a bit. Whether this will affect the development of Baldur’s Gate 3 remains to be seen but we really hope not, the game is expected to be fully released in August.

Are you looking forward to Baldur’s Gate 3?
