Woman accused of animal cruelty for allegedly having three dogs in deplorable conditions

Tracy Amber Galván, 38, of Lozano, faces three counts of animal cruelty after she was arrested for keeping three dogs in allegedly deplorable conditions, Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza said in a press release.

The incident for which Galván was arrested occurred this past July 29, when agents from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office went to Lozano to investigate how three dogs were.

Upon arriving at the scene, the agents observed a dog tied to a tree. The animal, according to the police, was visibly malnourished and its bones were protruding from the body as it appeared to have pus coming from its eyes.

Meanwhile, in another tree, the agents observed a second dog tied up, presumably malnourished, with scabies and calluses on its body. A third dog was located in the place, it was not tied up but it did have “several wounds on the neck, scabies all over its body and a swollen abdomen,” adds the police letter.

While continuing their investigation, Cameron County Sheriff’s Office deputies determined that the three dogs were living in deplorable conditions and needed medical attention, so they contacted Galvan, the animals’ owner.

According to police, when interviewed, Galvan admitted to keeping the dogs for about a month and not giving them any medical attention. In addition, she allegedly stated that she did not have the time or money to take care of her dogs.

The three dogs were later turned over to Cameron County Animal Control and Galván was charged with three counts of cruelty to animals and transferred to the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center.
