The trial was held at the beginning of May in Mora District Court and the verdict was delivered on Friday afternoon.

The crime was committed in a residence in Orsa municipality earlier this spring. The man and two women in their 30s are said to have had dinner together on a Saturday evening, lawyer Erik Söderman tells SVT. Later, the man allegedly became threatening towards the other woman. In his hand he had a knife with which he threatened her.

The other woman then defended herself in an emergency for her own and her friend’s life, by taking the knife and pressing it against the man’s neck so that he was injured. The injured man was taken by ambulance helicopter to Falu hospital for treatment.

At first, both women were suspected of the crime, but later one woman was dismissed and instead heard as a witness, according to lawyer Erik Söderman. According to the Mora district court, one woman was subjected to a life-threatening procedure. She had the right to defend herself.

– This right also has the person who helps the person who is attacked. The now acquitted woman thus had the right to emergency protection, the district court writes in the judgment.

Was set free

After the final negotiations just over a week ago, the accused woman was released with immediate effect.

The woman denies the crime and said she acted out of necessity. However, she acknowledges the course of events.
