Due to a rare condition, 24-year-old Kira Archuleta is constantly bullied and has even been nicknamed Freddy Kruger. The American suffers from hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic and inflammatory skin disease that resembles acne and triggers painful lesions throughout the body.
Kira began to suffer from the sores at age 14, when small boils broke out in her armpit. Quickly, the lesions began to spread to his thighs, groin and face. However, the doctors only advised her to “clean up better”. The diagnosis of the disease came three years later, at the age of 17, after she spent ten months in bed due to the worsening of the wounds.

When they burst, boils become extremely painful and can take weeks to heal. Therefore, the young woman was compared to the fictional character Freddy Kruger, from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, who had her body burned by her own parents and got scars all over her body.
On TikTok, Kira shares videos that show injuries in the areas of greatest friction. “I’ve felt disgusting for years. I just want to be normal,” she states in one of the videos.

Understanding hidradenitis suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa has no cure and is not contagious. According to the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), the treatment of the disease can vary according to its severity – generally, it includes wound hygiene and also the use of cream or oral antibiotics.
Some habit changes are also indicated, since several studies suggest that hidradenitis suppurativa is associated with smoking, obesity and diets rich in carbohydrates, animal fat and sugars.

So Kira has adopted a new skincare routine: she takes warm baths, cleans wounds, and uses medications prescribed by her doctor. In addition, she cut the consumption of red meat, pork and dairy products from her diet, as these are foods that can lead to the worsening of hidradenitis.
