On matchday number 12 of the Women’s Soccer World Cup, victories for Japan and Zambia: Japan 4-0 Spain and Costa Rica 1-3 Zambia, in Group C.

Spain suffered a severe setback on Monday when they were beaten (4-0) by Japan, their toughest rival so far. With discipline, efficiency and Hinata Miyazawa, Japan took up arms to triumph over a completely disoriented Spanish squad that was unable to find its best version.

With this result, La Roja advances to the round of 16 as second in the group, and will face Switzerland in the next duel this Saturday at 7:00 CEST (5:00 GMT).

Costa Rica says goodbye

The Costa Rican team fell this Monday against Zambia, 1-3, and said goodbye to the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand without adding points in their group.

Goals from Mweemba, Banda and Kundananji gave Zambia victory in a game that both teams entered with no chance of qualifying from Group C, having lost their first two games against Spain and Japan.

Costa Rica, which saved with a goal from Melissa Herrera, completed its second participation in a senior women’s World Cup after competing in Canada 2015, and leaves without being able to achieve its first victory in a World Cup yet.
