Microsoft has released the data regarding Q2 of the fiscal year 2023. In the gaming sector, the Redmond giant has seen decrease revenue on virtually every frontstarting from the hardware and passing through the contents, services, and first and third-party products.

Revenue from Xbox hardware decreased 13% along with a 12% decline in revenue from Xbox content and services. Microsoft says this is due to “a strong previous year”, and that the overall decline was “partially offset by growth in Xbox Game Pass subscriptionsOverall, Microsoft’s gaming revenue is decreased by 13% year-on-year.

Last year, in this same quarter, Microsoft declared that Xbox Game Pass had grown to 25 million subscribers, but since then the Redmond company has not provided further updates and there are no specific references in the new financial report. Phil Spencer previously spoke of a stalled Xbox Game Pass on consoles, while on PC the number of subscribers continued to grow considerably.

Earlier this year, Microsoft laid off around 10,000 employees, a decision the company suffered but deemed necessary according to Xbox division leader Phil Spencer.
