‘This year will be the year of video games!’ If this Arlesian is not unknown to us, it is clear that once again the expectations are at least stratospheric in the face of the string of games planned for the coming year. Starfield, Redfall, Hogwarts Legacy, etc. The humble players that we are will have our work cut out to finish everything. And if several large exclusives do not yet have a final release date (hello Starfield), this beginning of the year already looks very busy.
The big Xbox game releases in January
Monster Hunter Rise (day one Xbox Game Pass day)
Having conquered many players on PC and Switch last year, Monster Hunter Rise finally arrives on Xbox consoles and this directly in the Xbox Game Pass. Playable solo or cooperatively, this episode is one of the best in the series. We take out our weapons and knock out the dinosaur on January 20.
Dead Space Remake
Dead Space, the classic of the survival-horror genre, returns to us better and fresher than ever. It remains to be seen whether this revisit will have enough assets to establish itself once again as a reference of the genre. Especially since the recent Callisto Protocol is not far away. We return to space on January 27.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (day one Xbox Game Pass)
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition celebrates the twentieth anniversary of one of the most popular strategy games of all time with 4K Ultra HD graphics, a completely remastered new soundtrack and an all-new expansion, “The Last Khans” with three new campaigns and four civilizations. We start skirmishes on consoles on January 31, directly in the Xbox Game Pass.

Hogwarts Legacy
Wingardium Leviosa! Take out your chopsticks, your brooms and your best dress towards Hogwarts (Hogwarts in the original version, hence the title) to discover this open world rooted in the wizarding world. Freeing itself from the story of Harry Potter, since it takes place in the 19th century, Hogwarts Legacy is undoubtedly one of the biggest releases of this beginning of the year. Beginning of the (magic) course on February 10.
Wild Hearts
Wild Hearts is a Monster Hunter type monster hunting game that offers a more action and spectacular approach to the genre. Playable solo or with others, this new license signed Koei Tecmo has captured the attention of players, it only remains to see if the pleasure controller in hand is there. Reply February 16.
Atomic Heart (day one Xbox Game Pass)
Bioshock, Prey, Fallout, etc. The references are numerous and we can say that Atomic Heart has managed to attract curiosity with its unique style mixing dystopia and robotic USSR. True spiritual successor or wet firecracker? Do svidaniya real life and welcome to robotic madness on February 21, straight to Xbox Game Pass.
Like a Dragon: Ishin
Draw your sword, load your gun and join the revolution in this remake of the 2014 title. Like a Dragon: Ishin is a high-octane action game with the typical touch of the creators of the Yakuza series. Sharpen your blade for February 21.
Blood Bowl 3
Orcs and American football, impossible marriage? However, it is with this premise that Blood Bowl, the flagship license of Games Workshop board games, returns to us with this third episode. New rules are on the program, as well as the deceit specific to the series. Kick off February 23.
The big Xbox game releases in March
The Day Before
Will come out? Won’t come out? Already postponed, we still know too little about The Day Before, a very ambitious survival MMO. With a release planned for this beginning of the year, let’s hope that the promises will be kept. Answer (logically) on March 1
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (day one Xbox Game Pass)
Team Ninja puts the Nioh series aside and offers us a new license in a feudal souls-like style reminiscent of Sekiro. Let’s hope that the comparison does not stop there and that the originality of this Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be there. Arm yourself for March 3, directly in Xbox Game Pass.
Skull and Bones
Repeatedly postponed, Skull and Bones should finally arrive at the beginning of next year, barring a new surprise. This naval battle game made by Ubisoft, greatly influenced by Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, combines everything that can be found in their major current productions: crafting, exploration and leveling. Will he be able to convince us once at the helm of our virtual ship? We cast off on March 9.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Set five years after the events of Jedi: Fallen Order, Survivor puts us in control of Cal Kestis, this time more experienced and determined than ever. SIFU
Recently announced on Xbox after a Playstation exclusive, SIFU is a French martial arts game that shines with its exceptional artistic direction as well as spectacular gameplay. No precise date apart from a vague ‘March’ but no doubt that we will be fixed very quickly!
This list obviously only flies over the big releases planned and confirmed for the moment, difficult to take them all back for a start to the year 2023 which already promises to be very dense. Will we have the opportunity to get our hands on Starfield and/or Redfall during these first three months?
