A true monument of PC video games, XCOM has even become a genre in its own right. However, nothing very happy on the horizon.

XCOM is a cult saga. Enough to make it a strategic genre in its own right with variations like the very recent Marvel’s Midnight Suns which we have also had the opportunity to test. Specifically it is a turn-based tactical style with a top view. And it works wonderfully and can be adapted to many universes. And in the context of good sales for the Marvel game, one could have imagined the return of the XCOM king soon. Alas, that will not be the case.

It was during a recent interview with videogameschronicle that Jake Solomon, creative director of the franchise XCOM was able to provide some information on the saga and on a potential new episode. Nothing too fancy, alas.

Of course you can ask (laughs), you can add your voice to the chorus that echoes from the hills. Personally, I don’t have any information about this at the moment and I’m saying this because, really, yesterday I was working on Morbius Abbey skins and recolors (Marvel’s Midnight Suns), so I’m not working on it. I don’t have a secret agenda, I don’t know anything about XCOM at this stage.

Since the release of a surprise PC-only spin-off called XCOM: Chimera Squad in 2020, there is scant news on the series. And in the meantime we can only turn to Marvel’s Midnight Suns from the same development studio. Nothing is on the horizon. It remains to be seen now if this is real information or a “decoy” on the part of Jack Salomon to try to keep a potential surprise. Everything is obviously possible in this environment.

Wait and see. Would you like to see a new episode XCOM to arrive ? If so, what are your expectations in terms of gameplay mechanics?
