Xiaomi has just updated one of its most popular product lines with the Band 8. The bracelet has not gained major revolutions compared to the past model, but it has brought some important construction changes.

The main difference is in the way the core is connected to the bracelet. While the previous models had a capsule that involved the central part, now the bracelets are connected in two parts, with fitting in each end of the “pill” – more similar to what other brands do.

This is a similar mechanism to what is seen in several smart watches, such as the Apple Watch itself. In this way, Xiaomi promises greater versatility of use, including with different formats.

The company showed, for example, a fitting that allows the use of the Xiaomi Band 8 as a lanyard. Another option is the clip that attaches to a tennis shoelace, which can be less intrusive when playing sports.

However, these options must compromise some body monitoring functions, since there is no direct contact with the skin. Also, the news means that connectors from Band 7 and earlier are no longer supported.

Xiaomi Band 8 has AMOLED screen and 150 sports modes

In addition, the Xiaomi Band 8 has characteristics very similar to its direct predecessor. The bracelet screen is 1.62 inches and AMOLED technology, in addition to support for Always-On mode.

The company even made some subtle changes to the operating system, with new selectable faces that also serve as minigames.

The product is capable of monitoring over 150 different sports activities, including data related to exercise oxygen consumption (VO2 Max). You can also track data such as heart rate, blood oxygen levels (SpO2), stress, sleep and more.

The bracelet was even announced with support for voice commands, and authentication via NFC. However, these features are often left out in global versions of the product.

price and availability

The Xiaomi Band 8 was presented in the Chinese market, still without an expected arrival in other countries. Its official price is 239 yuan (about BRL 173 in direct conversion) for the regular model, or 279 yuan (~BRL 202) for the version with NFC.
