A Hyundai will show in detail its newest SUV for the Chinese market: the Hyundai Mufasa. Yes, the name of the car has to do with the iconic character from The Lion Kingby Disney, and should be one more attraction for this model, which will be positioned between the Hyundai Creta and the Hyundai Tucson.

Scheduled to be shown at the Shanghai Auto Show, the Hyundai Mufasa had some leaked images that show what its external design will look like. The inspiration in existing models in the company’s bed is clear, but there is an extra touch of modernity in general, especially at the rear, which received LED lights that cut out the entire trunk door.

The engine, however, follows the same as some versions of the iX35, a 2.0 aspirated 160hp coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. The idea, it seems, is not to innovate much in performance and just to give Chinese consumers one more option. A variant with a small 48V electric motor is also expected — but not confirmed.

As for the size, Mufasa is not ugly. They are 4.47m long, 2.68m wheelbase, 1.68m high and 1.85m wide, similar to medium models here in Brazil, such as Jeep Compass and Toyota Corolla Cross. It is worth remembering that the SUV will be manufactured only in China by Beijin Hyundai Motor Company, joint-venture between the South Koreans and the Chinese from BAIC.

Information about prices, embedded technology and finishing of the Hyundai Mufasa will be known during the Shanghai Auto Show, which takes place between April 18th and 27th.
