The UNAM confirmed the existence of a case of plagiarism between the thesis of Yasmín Esquivel, minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) and one previously presented. The analysis pointed out that it could be the work supported in 1986, and not that of the official, the original; however, it has not made a determination in the case.

And it is that the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) supported the decision of the FES Aragón to extend the analysis. This after receiving a notarized testimony that would prove that Yasmín Esquivel is not responsible.

“After the analysis of the documentation by the Committee and based on the high level of coincidences between the theses under review, greater than 90 percent, the existence of plagiarism is evident.” UNAM reported this December 31 in a statement.

The educational institution explained that the coincidences between both academic works “make it presume that the original thesis was the one supported in 1986.” But it will be until analyzing the new testimony that the FES Aragón will give a verdict, since this:

“It contains a writing from the person who supported his thesis in 1986, stating that he used several references, texts and important parts of the content of the thesis published later, in 1987,” said the UNAM.

The university described the most recent events as contradictory, which is why it pointed out that it is evident the need to gather additional information before FES Aragón determines who is responsible. It will be until the latter resumes academic and administrative activities that a new session will be called.

In its pronouncement, UNAM also explained the modification to Yasmín Esquivel’s thesis file, which she mentioned on December 30. The university argued that missing pages were added to the document.

“There was a need to return to the microfilm to scan the missing pages and complete the PDF in the TESIUNAM repository,” he said.

The UNAM pointed out that it was when comparing the theses involved in the plagiarism that the absence of eight pages of Esquivel’s work was discovered, which were not added during the digitization process that had to be carried out because the thesis was originally microfilmed. . It was in this sense that the modification was made.

With this pronouncement, the Máxima de Estudios confirmed the statements of Yasmín Esquivel, who on December 30 announced that she had previously presented the corresponding documentation in relation to the plagiarism case.

The minister of the SCJN insisted that these are tests that favor her and show that the work with which she obtained her professional title is her responsibility. She also assured that they confirm that behind the accusations there are outside interests that intend to intervene in the process to elect the new head of the SCJN.

“I have been the object of a campaign of lies and defamation without substantiation, I have undertaken different actions through the competent channels of official institutions, to demonstrate that the truth is on my side,” he declared in his most recent statement.
