Yellowstone: Taylor Sheridan finally reveals the truth behind the departure of Kevin Costner

“His film seems to be a big priority for him. He wants to move on. Hope it’s worth it…”

Trouble at the Dutton Ranch. For weeks, the production of Yellowstone was hanging on the lips of Kevin Costnereager to leave the series, to go to another Horizon, his next epic film. A 4-film western that led to his sudden departure and forced the production of Yellowstone has completely revised its plans, as admitted Taylor Sheridan in a news interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The creator and director reveals that Kevin Costner told him about “this passion project he wanted to realize”, with reference to Horizon. “He and Paramount were arguing over when he could be done with it. Yellowstone. I said there was a way to work things out and work out a schedule that would allow him to leave when it suited him. What we have done !”

Sheridan “did not change“of opinion on Kevin Costner despite the dramas and this hasty departure. “But once the lawyers and the agents get involved, then people stop talking to each other and start saying things that don’t have to be. He took a lot for his rank and I don’t know if it was deserved… His film seems to be a big priority for him and he wants to turn the page. I hope it will be worth it and that it will be a good movie…”

There remains the case of the character John Dutton. Taylor Sheridan confirms that this departure will “truncate conclusion intended for the character. It won’t modify it, but it will truncate it.” He still reveals that he has absolutely no intention of harvesting his hero and killing the boss of the ranch “in a fucking car accident! What a mess! I don’t do that myself. Whether Dutton’s spell inflates or insults Kevin’s ego is collateral damage. I don’t take that into account when it comes to my storytelling.”
