On Saturday, just before his coronation ceremony, King Charles III complained to the Queen about William and Kate being late. Charles III and Camilla ended up breaking the protocol to end the long wait of a few minutes.

Charles III has the reputation of getting annoyed quickly. And his coronation day, Saturday, was no exception to the rule. A lip-reading expert, quoted by Sky News and taken up by numerous media across the Channel, ensures that the monarch complained to his wife Camilla a few moments before entering Westminster Abbey, where the ceremony was held.

“You can never be on time”, would have ruminated Charles III, adding that “there is always something” (unforeseen).

“It’s negative”

However, Charles III and Camilla arrived early at the abbey. But the now crowned heads had to wait: Prince William and his wife Kate, who were accompanied by their children Louis and Charlotte, arrived late.

However, the protocol provided for the entry of the Prince and Princess of Wales before that of Charles III and Camilla. The king and his wife therefore waited a few minutes, which infuriated Charles III.

“You can never be on time… It’s negative… There’s always something… It’s boring,” said Charles III, visibly upset, to Camilla.

Change of program

In order not to make the king wait any longer, a slight breach of protocol was committed, since Charles III and Camilla ended up entering Westminster Abbey before the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Everything ended well: a few minutes later, William pledged allegiance to his father. One of the highlights of this ceremony, followed by tens of millions of people around the world.

This is not the first time that Charles III has gotten annoyed when cameras are trained on him. In September 2022, the sovereign showed his anger … when one of his pens started to leak during a visit to Northern Ireland.
