Young man arrested after allegedly beating his niece and brother-in-law

Jesús Zúñiga, 21, was arrested after allegedly being involved in a domestic violence incident in which his two-year-old niece was injured along with the child’s father, Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza said.

According to police, officers from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office went to the Cameron Park area on Thursday, July 19, due to a family disturbance. Upon arrival, a person reported that his son had been attacked by Zuñiga, who left the place after the incident.

Then the agents went looking for him, located him and detained him to be questioned.

During the preliminary investigation, agents interviewed the brother-in-law, who reported that he was working out of his residence when Zuñiga arrived and began arguing. Then, the man allegedly assaulted the brother-in-law by punching him in the face.

Then, the assaulted person entered the house. Then the defendant did the same and entered his sister’s room and started another discussion. At that moment, Zuñiga attacked her brother-in-law once again and pushed her sister.

Upon further investigation of the incident, officers discovered that Zuniga grabbed his two-year-old niece, struck her in the shoulder, and dropped her causing minor stomach/rib injuries.

Zuniga was charged with two counts of family violence for assault and one count of causing injury to a child. Additionally, the youth had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Wharton County for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The young man was admitted to the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center.
