After the publication in a prestigious American newspaper of a report on the intentions of an offensive on Russian territory by Volodimir Zelenski, the Ukrainian president himself strongly rejected the claims.
“We do not attack Russian territory, we liberate our own legitimate territory“, he differed, and later maintained that “we have neither the time nor the strength to attack Russia. And we also don’t have any weapons to spare, with which we could do this.”
However, the Ukrainian president acknowledged that “we are preparing a counterattack for the illegally occupied areas on the basis of our constitutionally defined legitimate borders, which are internationally recognized.”
The award in Germany
While the war between Ukraine and Russia does not cease and the cities are stained with blood, just over a year and two months having passed since it began, Zelensky received recognition in Germany for his “commitment” to “European values”.
“President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine are fighting for the values and obligation that this award embodies,” Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, said in Aachen.
“And in doing so, they are also fighting for our own freedom and our values. Democracy and the rule of law, freedom of expression and the freedom to create your own destiny,” he added later.
For his part, the Ukrainian president highlighted the actions of the German government and wrote in the guest book that “during the most difficult time in Ukraine’s modern history, Germany proved to be our true friend and our reliable ally.”
