The Russian domestic secret service FSB says it has thwarted a Ukrainian attack on a military airfield in central Russia. The target of the attack was an A-50 radar detection plane at Severny airfield in the Ivanovo region, the FSB said on its website.

The airfield is about 700 km from the border with Ukraine. The planned attack, in which a drone equipped with explosives was to be used, was prevented in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior. The pilot of a small plane and other members of what the FSB calls a sabotage group have been arrested in the Tula region. According to the secret service, they were flown in from Ukraine.

Russia: Defense against night drone attack on Sevastopol

According to Russian information, a drone attack was also repelled in Sevastopol on the Russian-annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea during the night. “Anti-aircraft and electronic warfare units repelled another attack on the city,” Russian-installed Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Rasvozhayev told Telegram today.

Ukraine fired more than 10 drones at the city, he added. Two drones were shot down over the sea and another crashed into a forest after losing control. “No infrastructure in the city was damaged,” Rasvozhayev said. The Russian Black Sea Fleet is stationed in the port city of Sevastopol.

Romania: Russian fighter jet intercepted Polish plane

According to Romanian reports, a Russian warplane intercepted a Polish plane during a patrol flight for the EU border protection agency Frontex. The Romanian Defense Ministry said today that the Polish border guard plane was on a routine Frontex flight on Friday when it was intercepted by a Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet through repeated “aggressive and dangerous manoeuvres”.

The incident happened “in international airspace over the Black Sea”, about 60 kilometers east of Romanian airspace. Romanian and Spanish aircraft were then put on “pre-alert” by NATO.
