Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy can be satisfied with his visits to Italy and Germany. He got almost everything he wanted. A lot of encouragement, more weapons deliveries and many positive pictures. He needs it because he is not only fighting against the Russian invading army, but also for the support of the western allies for his invaded country. Beyond these rather atmospheric aspects, Zelenskyj’s visit showed once again that those responsible in Kiev and the allied capitals have long since prepared for a longer war and that the planned counter-offensive will not be the last. It is not for nothing that all those involved have contradicted overly high expectations of the spring offensive in the last few days. But if the alliance between Ukraine and the US-led alliance with Germany and the other EU states wants to be successful, it will have to have staying power.
