63 participants at the 8th Vorarlberg dulcimer and zither day in Lingenau.
Lingenau. At the Vorarlberg dulcimer and zither day in Lingenau, 63 musicians aged between nine and 87 from Vorarlberg, Germany and Switzerland impressively demonstrated that interest in the versatile instruments is clearly on the rise again. The “Wäldersaal” was filled to the last seat at the final concert of the participants. Various formations, workshop orchestras, ensembles and small groups played music at the end of the intensive day of rehearsals and demonstrated the remarkable results.
For Luzia Richter, head of the folk music department at the music school in Bregenzerwald and initiator of the Vorarlberg dulcimer and zither day, the dulcimer and zither are contemporary and modern instruments. “Anyone who thinks that the dulcimer and zither are only rarely played can be convinced of the opposite here. Interest in the versatile instruments is on the rise again, not least thanks to the Vorarlberg dulcimer and zither days.” The selection of pieces at the final concert proved that the literature is by no means limited to folk music. Director Anton Meusburger (Musikschule Bregenzerwald) thanked the speakers, participants and concertgoers as well as the main organizers Luzia Richter and Doris Matula on behalf of the cooperation partners.
The zither day was organized by the Bregenzerwald music school in cooperation with the Vorarlberger Musikschulwerk, the Vorarlberger Volksliedwerk and the Bregenzerwald home care association. Among the hundreds of interested visitors, Georg Fröwis, chairman of the Bregenzerwald music school, Anita Frühwirth (folk song work) and Richard Bilgeri, chairman of the Bregenzerwald local heritage association, were enthusiastic about the successful performances.
