The emotional roller coaster ride continues for the polar bears. Three days after beating Bietigheim 5-0 at home, the Berliners were beaten 4-2 (1-1, 1-1, 0-2) in Ingolstadt on Boxing Day and are still waiting for a small winning streak.

Against the second in the table, the Berliners and goalkeeper Juho Markkanen had to endure some dangerous attacks after just a few seconds. Immediately after the first Berlin penalty for Morgan Ellis, who played his 200th DEL game, the hosts scored the 1-0 through Marko Friedrich (7th).

A lack of discipline from Ingolstadt then brought the polar bears back into play. After a violent gang check against Zach Boychuk, Enrico Henriquez Morales received a game penalty. Because Stefan Matteau had previously injured himself after a collision with the Berlin goal, the ERC lost two players in the first third.

The decisive factor was that the Ingolstadt team had to play with four men for five minutes. The Berlin equalizer by Marcel Noebels (16th) did not fall in the power play, but in a four-on-four, because Berlin’s Marco Nowak also had to go to the penalty box for two minutes because he had prevented a counterattack. In keeping with the anniversary, the ex-Ingolstadt resident is preparing Ellis.

Maximilian Heim meets again in Ingolstadt

With this basic feeling, the Berliners also looked superior in the early stages of the second third. After Giovanni Fiore, who had scored three goals against Bietigheim, initially missed the lead after a 2-1 counterattack, Maximilian Heim of all people scored the first Berlin lead.

When the two teams first met in Ingolstadt on October 7th, when the Eisbären won 3-1, Maximilian Heim scored his first goal in his first DEL game. So now he scored again, in the meantime he hadn’t been able to collect another scorer point.

And it was obvious that Aubin’s side are looking to make their mark in the first of three away games this week. And although they were the leading team at times, Ingolstadt’s Charles Bertrand scored the 2-2 equalizer on the power play in the last minute before the second break.

Despite the two missing players, Oberbayern increasingly took control and showed why they are currently one of the best DEL teams. A double strike from Benjamin Marshall and Mirko Höfflin (53./55.) ensured the corresponding result and left the guests, who are challenged on Wednesday in Bremerhaven and on Friday in Straubing, with the next uneasy feeling.
