Cinephiles, 2023 will be a great year for you. Many films will be to be discovered in our dark rooms, for our greatest pleasure. And the good news is that there will be really for all tastes. Of Barbie to Oppenheimer Passing by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewe are going to have fun.
Without further ado, here is our selection of the 23 films not to be missed under any circumstances in 2023. Follow the guide!
1) Barbie
With Barbie, Greta Gerwig is determined to revolutionize the big screen. In recent years, the director has already offered us some gems such as Little Women and lady bird. With Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as headliners, this film dedicated to the Mattel doll promises to send heavy.
It’s colorful and retro but it’s a safe bet that this feature film will not leave us indifferent and will address deeper themes. From what little we know of the plot, Barbie should be a critique of society beneath its layer of goofiness. Indeed, we will follow the adventures of a Barbie deemed “not perfect enough” in our real world.
According to the first trailer, which is inspired by the opening scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick Barbie will send heavy.
2) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
While Peter Parker shamelessly opened the doors to the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Miles Morales takes over in the second part of his animated film. Almost four years later Spider-Man: Next Generationour favorite spider-man gives us an appointment on May 31, 2023 for a ride in the Spider-Verse. Hang on, it’s gonna shake.
Head to the Multiverse, as Miles Morales encounters a slew of alternate Spider-Men to face a superpowered new antagonist. There are no less than 6 parallel universes and 240 new characters. One thing is certain: we can’t wait to discover Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
3) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
While Guardians of the Galaxy gave us a quick hello last month for Christmas, they’re definitely back on next may 3 for the third part of their intergalactic adventures.
The first trailer seems to confirm what James Gunn promised us in an interview last year: tears will flow. Five years after the second part of the adventures of our favorite guardians, it was time to find them. We can say that we are waiting for this third opus at the turn.
4) Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
In this fifth installment, we are back in 1969 alongside your favorite archaeologist’s favorite archaeologist. According to the first trailer forIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyour dear Indiana Jones seems to have left his whip in the locker room… Until the Nazis landed and plotted within NASA.
To counter them, Indy will be able to count on his goddaughter Helena, played by the excellent Phoebe Waller-Bridge. On the poster, we also find Mads Mikkelsen in the role of the antagonist. Beautiful people who assure us of an ultimate component worthy of the name? Let’s hope so ! Verdict it June 28, 2023.
5) Dune, part two

Last year, Denis Villeneuve delighted us with Dunes, the adaptation of a science fiction behemoth written by Frank Herbert in 1965. Success is there, to say the least. Inevitably, fans are already waiting for the sequel and some were left unsatisfied at the end of the first part. For good reason: the director had chosen to divide the novel into two parts.
So we left our dear Paul Atreides in the heart of the Arrakis desert as he plots his revenge against those who attacked his family. In this second opus, the protagonist will have to choose between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe to prevent a tragic future.
If we have not yet been able to discover the trailer for Dunes 2, this first preview should be out soon. Warner Bros. shouldn’t keep us waiting too long and we’ll have something to eat very soon, that’s for sure. This second part will be released on November, 1st next.
6) Super Mario Bros., the movie
Why don’t you take a tour of the Mushroom Kingdom? Since the April 5, we will dive into the adventures of Mario and his friends. Visually, this animated film is already awe-inspiring. Fans of the famous Italian-Japanese mustachioed firefighter will be delighted since the film will be a reference well: Route Arc-en-Ciel de Mario KartMario’s Tanuki power, his debut in donkey kong.
Not surprisingly, Super Mario Bros, the movie stands out as a faithful adaptation of the famous character’s video games. Bowser threatens the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Peach asks our two mustachioed plumbers, Mario and Luigi, for help.
7) Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
It’s time to brush up on your quantum physics lessons. Scott Lang is finally back in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Marvel fans will be delighted since this new film opens phase V of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and promises to be of paramount importance for the sequel. While Phase IV of the MCU disappointed fans somewhat, this new phase should make them happy.
While Ant-Man and the Wasp have become real stars after their prowess, they will explore the Quantum Realm in spite of themselves. All this in the company of Stinger, the daughter of Scott Lang. Of course, a major antagonist appears: Kang the conqueror. Serious things begin. And we are delighted to know that the plot is finally moving forward!
8) Oppenheimer
Another film we are looking forward to in 2023? Oppenheimer, the next explosive film from Christopher Nolan. The director ofInceptionamong other things, offers us an adaptation of the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. In short, this is the (true) story of the inventor of the nuclear bomb.
Christopher Nolan does not mess with a 5-star cast, the film being worn by Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt as well as Robert Downey Jr. to name a few. From what little we have seen, Oppenheimer will be a sonic and visual slap. Strongly the July 19, 2023 !

Bonuses: How will you live?, the next Studio Ghibli film, which will be released on July 14 in Japan. For us, we will have to wait a bit.
As you said at the beginning of this article: there will be something for everyone. In all likelihood, 2023 will be a great year for moviegoers and we’re not going to complain about it.
