Chicago (USA), Apr 8 (EFE) Mex Tour W’, the tour of friendly matches for the United States of the ‘Tri’.
Funded by international sponsors such as AT&T, Bud Light, and Wells Fargo and powered by a collaboration between the Mexican federation and Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the commercial arm of Major League Soccer, the Mex Tour took Mexico to Chicago and will then move to Houston for a friendly against the Houston Dash.
Verónica Corral, Karla Nieto, María Sánchez, Diana Ordoñez and Carolina Jaramillo scored the goals for Mexico, which gave the stature in a match against the Chicago Red Stars, one of the elite teams of the American NWSL.
Supported by more than 3,000 Mexican fans, the game was a monologue for the Mexican team for more than half an hour, with excellent offensive combinations, good rhythm, and Kenti Robles and Greta Espinoza dominating the defense.
Pedro López’s team scored three goals in just over a quarter of an hour, between 19 and 35. Corral warned with a great curved shot from his left foot that crashed against the crossbar and shortly after he was in charge of transforming the penalty from 1-0 with a cross shot that deceived the rival goal.
Karla Nieto increased the gap with a good right-footed shot from 18 meters and María Sánchez, a former Red Stars player, made it 3-0 with a left-footed cross inside the area.
The Mexican monologue could also have scored the fourth goal, had Ordoñez not been offside with his scoring header.
However, a drop in concentration in the final minutes of the first half was taken advantage of by the Red Stars to cut back with Bianchi, from a corner kick, and Griffith, with a header, to make it 2-3 that reopened the clash.
The break helped Mexico regain concentration and at the restart López’s players once again dominated the game.
Goalkeeper Wood denied the fourth goal with two merit saves from a shot by Ordóñez and Ovalle, but she could do nothing against the constant push of El Tri.
Ordóñez made it 4-2 with a powerful left-footed shot from outside the area in minute 62 and Jaramillo, in minute 78, nailed a direct free kick from 18 meters to make it 5-2.
The Mexican fans located in the north curve, who cheered on their players throughout the game, celebrated in style.
