The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, today launched the digital platform for teaching the English language. Algeria becomes the first country in Africa to equip itself with this platform, with the support of the American university MIT.
In Algeria, many voices are raised to claim to replace French by English as long teaching. Our country has just taken an important step in teaching the language of Shakespeare.
Indeed, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, supervised today, Monday January 2, the digital platform dedicated to English-language distance education. He indicated that Algeria will operate this platform with the support of the American University “MIT”. 30,000 university teachers will benefit from support in English language learning.
A first in Africa
Thus, Algeria becomes the first African country to equip itself with said digital platform. The latter is dedicated to receiving requests and complaints from the university corporation, research and university works, as well as the official launch of the electronic signature in the sector.
“Algeria is becoming the first African country to equip itself with this digital platform with the support of MIT University. This will allow the teacher to address his students in English”. Minister Kamel Baddari told the media.
And to add: “This is an important step for a break with traditional practices … the objective is to concretize the practical programs of the main digital plan of the scientific research sector which runs from November 2022 until December 2024”.
To conclude, the Minister recalled that the main digital plan for his sector “comprises 7 main axes, 16 strategic programs and 102 practical programs”.
In an official press release, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research indicates that it has given instructions to universities which have trainers who master the English language so that they begin to provide their courses from the academic year in course 2022/2023. As for universities that have language teaching centers or English language departments, they will have to train their own teachers themselves.
