For more than four years Billy Basso worked behind the scenes on AnimalWell before being revealed by a PlayStation Blog post and then making its way to the Day of the Devs during the Summer Game Fest. Today, the author does not yet have a release date to present but takes stock of the progress of the project by unveiling a new trailer. Always as enigmatic, this metroidvania in which we direct a harmless blob plays on the element of surprise, the player never really knowing how the creatures, the environment and the objects of this strange world will react and interact. All items in the game have multiple uses.

This world exists for the benefit of the many creatures that live there, be they dogs, mice, kangaroos, capybaras or chinchillas. Not that you’re not welcome there, it’s just that they were there before you. Some animals can be very friendly, others hostile. None of them are your enemy per se, but neither are your friends. They react to their environment in the way that makes the most sense to them. You may need to collaborate with them or circumvent them to achieve your goal“, explains Billy Basso in a new post of the PlayStation-Blog.

The game promises to be rich in secrets, some of which will only be discovered years after its release, promises its author, who has designed his own game engine to have total control over what happens in AnimalWell, whether it’s how puzzles work or platforming sequences. Release planned for PlayStation 5 and PC.
