Commercial gambling in the United States had a record second quarter and is on track to beat the annual record set last year.

The American Gaming Association (AGA) reported revenue of $16.07 billion on Wednesday for the quarter ended June 30, up 8.1 percent from the second quarter of last year. It is the second best quarter in the history of the sector, only behind the first of this year. It is the tenth consecutive quarter of annual growth.

“While commercial gaming is on track for an unprecedented third consecutive year of record revenue, the lasting impact we are making in our communities through this record growth is even more impressive,” said AGA President and CEO, Bill Miller.

In the first half of 2023, the country’s commercial casinos reported 32.710 million dollars, 11.9 percent more than in the same period of 2022.

The revenue generated by casinos across the country translated into state and local tax revenues totaling $7.28 billion.

AG also said:

– Land-based gaming accounted for $12.38 billion in revenue in the second quarter (0.9 percent more than the same period a year ago), more than three-quarters of total commercial gaming revenue.

– Combined revenue from online and land-based sports betting totaled $2.3 billion in the second quarter, an industry record for any second quarter and up 56.6 percent year-over-year.

– iGaming tied for the highest-grossing first quarter in its history, generating $1.48 billion in revenue, up 22.5 percent from the second quarter of 2022.

– 23 of the 34 commercial gaming jurisdictions that operated a year ago increased second-quarter revenue over 2022.

“These results are a clear indication that our post-pandemic recovery was no fluke – the gaming industry continues to thrive, and when we do well, our communities do well,” Miller said. “To maintain this momentum, the AGA will continue to recruit more allies in our fight against the illegal market, strengthen responsible gaming, and build a business environment that enables our innovative industry to bring world-class entertainment to adults across the United States.”
