In recent days, an account called @iammadeleinemccan, which translated from English means “I am Madeleine McCann”, in reference to the British girl who disappeared in Portugal 16 years ago, went viral on Instagram.
In the profile, a young woman – whose identity is not entirely clear – shares images and videos where she says she has some suspicion that she could be the little girl whose disappearance caused a great impact worldwide.
In one of the shared footage, the girl said that she is not sure of her true identity or age. Also, she described that she has a freckle on her left cheek and a dot on her right eye, just in the same places as Madeleine.
“I think I can be Madeleine. I need a DNA test. UK and Polish police investigators try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me, ”she wrote on her Instagram profile, which was created 5 days ago and has more than half a million followers.
The young woman assured that “a few months ago” she began to wonder if it was McCann when she heard “something” her grandmother said, according to what The Mirror published.
The viralization of his profile caused an enormous amount of comments. Some users asked the authorities to investigate, while others questioned the truth of his words.
The Madeleine McCann case
Madeleine disappeared from her hotel room one night in 2007 in the middle of a family vacation in Portugal. While she and her brothers slept, her parents and a friendly couple had dinner a few meters from her room and went to see them from time to time.
However, in one of the rounds, they discovered that the girl’s bed was empty. From that moment on, the intense search began.
The case of the little girl became one of the most famous worldwide and her photos went around the world. Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCan, formed an organization dedicated to the search for the girl and the person guilty of her disappearance.
Christian Brueckner, the main suspect
After several years of intrigue, in June 2020 the authorities positioned Christian Brueckner as the main suspect in the case. However, there was never any concrete evidence that he was responsible for his disappearance.
However, the German man is currently serving a 7-year sentence for raping a woman in the Algarve region of Portugal, 2 years before the girl disappeared from the hotel without a trace.
