With the motto “Unlimited financial freedom”, the Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM) will celebrate this Thursday, May 18, its second Financial Education Congressin which players from the sector, authorities and specialists will participate.

The objective, explained José Miguel Domínguez, director of financial education and institutional relations of the ABMis to continue with the promotion, dissemination and promotion of this issue among the population.

“When you have poor management of your resources, you start to have problems, situations that stress you out and that has repercussions on your family life, on your health (…) and at the end of the day if many people have problems with their personal finances This can have repercussions at the macro level, which is why it is very important that people are trained in financial education issues,” said Dominguez.

In an interview, he highlighted that four panels were designed on which the event will take place: Put order in your finances, with topics such as financial stress, budgeting and saving; and Your account, the key to the financial worldabout the importance of this product.

Another panel is called Use credit responsibly and reach your goalsand one more about entrepreneurship for all.

The event will take place in a hybrid manner (virtual and face-to-face), and will include the participation of officials such as the Undersecretary of the Treasury, Gabriel Yorio; the president of the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef), Óscar Rosado, and the president of the ABM, Julio Carranza, as well as directors of financial education from different banks, among others.

José Miguel Domínguez pointed out that, unlike other events on the subject, this one seeks to offer a more practical orientation to attendees.

“We want to give them a very practical orientation, that they take advice, recommendations, because the speed, the current immediacy of the contemporary world, really leads people to be able to spend little time on things like this, and we want people to take things away very concrete to improve their personal finances”, he explained.

Priority within the organization

Director of financial education of the ABM highlighted that this issue is among the priorities of the organization and of each one of the banks, and proof of this is that throughout the year different activities are carried out on the matter, such as congresses in different universities in the country, and the organization (of jointly with the Condusef) of the National Financial Education Week (SNEF), in addition to campaigns in various communication channels.

Finally, the director of the ABM pointed out that one of the challenges today is to find a way to close the gap between the efforts of the different actors that promote financial educationto bring very specific information at the great speed with which, mainly young people, get involved in technological issues.
