The cry of triumph sounds: Finally, finally, the mask requirement in public transport should fall. What, if you please, is good about it? Recently on the subway. Then a young man came in. He obviously had trouble staying vertical. Above all, however, he coughed and sniffed to the delight of viruses, bacteria, other microbes and mucus. His balance problems put him on the seat, the neighbors moved as far away as possible. Sure, no mask, a whole guy doesn’t wear such a contraceptive after all.

On the train from Jena to Berlin, we sniffed around quite a bit ourselves, so of course we wore masks. If the conductor comes to Naumburg shortly: “You don’t have to wear a mask. We are in Saxony-Anhalt.” Really, definitely, we wouldn’t have to wear a mask. He could also say: Since the beginning of the epidemic, the AfD has been chasing the FDP and CDU in front of them with their radically anti-scientific view of hygiene and the spread of disease. So the local government, just like the Saxon state government, simply claims that viruses stick to state borders. We keep the mask on, he too, by the way. About an hour further: “Here there is a mask requirement.” Oh yes, we are in Brandenburg.

Not only this country-small-small is completely absurd. The hospitals are again full to the brim, every day you read about respiratory and flu diseases raging through the offices and factories, you can almost see the virus load on the train and bus, in schools lessons are often held as exceptional cases because the teachers: are sick inside – but we are abolishing the mask requirement. Wearing a mask, like vaccination, is not just an individual thing, but a social responsibility. When the hospitals are filled with easily preventable respiratory diseases, they cannot provide treatment, care and follow-up care as they want. As simple as that.

No one will ever know how many people died not from Covid-19 and the direct medical consequences, but from the overloading of the hospitals, the excess mortality statistics at least give an indication. But even such statistics ignore neoliberal-infected egoists who are now roaring “Fraihait”. What is actually such a problem with wearing a handkerchief over your mouth to help other people? So the motto: wear a mask in times of high virus load – even if everyone else is not wearing it.
