The Chamber of Appeals of La Plata confirmed the elevation to trial of the case against Uruguayan soccer player Diego García, former player of the Estudiantes de La Plata club and currently at Emelec in Ecuador, accused of sexually abusing a young woman in February 2021 , judicial sources reported today.

The soccer player’s defense had requested his dismissal and the Chamber of Appeals and Guarantees of La Plata rejected the request, for which reason the elevation of the file from last June to an oral trial was final.

It is worth mentioning that last June the Judge of Guarantees Pablo Raele rejected the defense’s arguments on requests for annulment and dismissal of the defendant, and raised the file to be discussed in an oral trial for the crime of “sexual abuse with carnal access” towards a young woman.

In his decision, Judge Raele answered each one of the proposals for annulment of the defense by the lawyer Diego Hernán Bandin, while ruling out the dismissal attempted by that party and recalling that the case must be analyzed “from a gender perspective”. .

The event that led to the complaint against García occurred in a farmhouse in the El Rodeo neighborhood, in the town of Abasto, La Plata district, on February 24, 2021, where other soccer players and girls participated, but none were hit by the police. complaint and only had to appear in court as witnesses.

At the time, Estudiantes immediately activated their gender protocols, separated the player from the squad until a request from his lawyer claiming that “the right to work could not be prevented” returned him to training but he never played again.

First, he loaned it to Talleres and then to the Board of Trustees, where he was quite reticent upon his arrival.

After dissolving his contractual relationship with “Pincha” and later with the Board, García joined Emelec of Ecuador last July.
