After one of its coolest days, rain is expected at the DMV for the next few days

Heat, long days and short nights are some signs that summer has officially arrived. However, that has not been what DMV residents have experienced this year.

A stationary storm near the central United States has left a rainy week for the eastern part of the nation, according to Telemundo 44 meteorologist Joseph Martinez.

“This rain is due to a wide system of bad weather. The center of the storm is stationary between Kentucky and Tennessee, but it is so large that it is covering more than a thousand miles: from Florida to New York,” he explained.

Because of this, Wednesday June 21, the day of the summer solstice, went down in history as one of the coolest on record with temperatures in the low 70s. By this date the thermometer should read 87 degrees. .

Martinez indicated that the system is expected to drop two inches of rain this week in the Washington DC area, which exceeds the amount accumulated during the month, which remained at a quarter of an inch.

“It is more than what has accumulated in the entire month,” he said.

However, the expert stressed that this occurs at times when it is most needed due to the drought that has been recorded in the area this year. The forecasts reveal that, for this time of year, the accumulated precipitation should be close to 19 inches and only 10 have accumulated.

For this reason, Wednesday was also the third driest June 21 on record since 1871.

UNTIL WHEN WILL THE RAIN CONTINUE?

Martinez reported that a second round of precipitation will arrive Thursday after noon and is expected to continue into the evening. Also, the weekend looks rainy with possible development of thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday night.

However, the expert anticipated that Sunday will be the driest day with temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees.

Stay tuned to the Weather Authority for the updated forecast.
