The influencer Raylla Fachin, 19, reinvented her own life after a tragic episode. Five years ago, she lost her left eye after being shot by an ex-boyfriend – she says she’s not sure if the shot was accidental.

With nearly three million followers on Tik Tok and 400,000 on Instagram, Rayla is dedicated to demystifying the use of ocular prostheses, giving tips on beauty, style and self-improvement. “I am happy to have many positive comments. I am very grateful for the notoriety that my work achieved”, says the young woman,

The use of the ocular prosthesis is handled naturally by Raylla. “People should understand that the use of prostheses is a common thing. We are normal people, we just need to have our differences respected, ”he says.

Reflection

On Christmas 2018, Raylla was spending the holidays at her then-boyfriend’s family home and the boys in the family decided to shoot a BB gun to distract themselves. The young woman did not want to participate.

At one point, the boyfriend pointed the gun directly at her and fired. “I don’t know if it was on purpose, because I was bored, or if it was a bad joke. He said he didn’t mean to, but I couldn’t believe it,” she says.

The young woman’s vision darkened at that very moment and she felt a strong headache. For 11 days, Raylla was hospitalized – she says that the period served for a deep inner reflection. “Out of everything that could have happened to me, I ended up just becoming a monocular person. At the hospital I met many people who were in worse situations than I was.”

Acceptance

Raylla says that, from the moment she was in the hospital, she already started to work on her acceptance of her new image, posting photos without her eye to show that she was fine, but would have a new appearance. “You need to accept me and make the people around me accept me too”, she says.

Currently, the young woman has five ocular prostheses. Two with a green tone similar to her eye, one bluish, one pink, the last one from the sharingan, a mystical eye from the universe of the anime Naruto.

“I keep all the prostheses in a box and wrapped in a tissue to keep them clean. Still, before putting it on, I always wash it with soap and water, ”she says. “I only use it during the day, since sleeping with a prosthesis is not recommended,” she says.
