Police arrested several protesters who set up a pro-Palestinian camp inside a building on Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus on Wednesday, a day after clearing protests at Columbia University and City College, according to police reports.

15 people were arrested in the operation, according to police sources.

More than 30 student protesters took over the Lowenstein Center at West 60th Street and Columbus Avenue, setting up camp inside the building’s lobby.

In a social media post Wednesday night, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations Kaz Daughtry said that “in an effort to ensure that further escalation does not occur,” Fordham “requested our assistance in breaking up an encampment.” of people inside one of its buildings.”

“Without incident, we have placed under arrest individuals who refused to disperse from the illegal encampment inside a (Fordham) building,” Daughtry wrote.

Daughtry did not say how many people were arrested.

Witnesses said the encampment began early Wednesday morning, and soon afterward a protest grew outside and on the roof of the building.

Officers in tactical gear stood between the approximately 300 protesters and the building to obstruct their view.

According to The Observer, a Fordham student newspaper, the camp was organized by the student group Fordham Students for Justice in Palestine.

The group demands an end to Israel’s military actions in Gaza, the newspaper reported.
