Two masked men – armed with weapon-like objects – forced the convicted man from the Prison Service Transport with him during Wednesday afternoon. According to information to SVT, the freed man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for attempted murder. A large police operation has been underway since the incident.
The police hold a press conference
During Thursday morning, the police held a press conference over the phone with the latest from the operation.
– We have no one detained at the moment and the preliminary investigation remains with the police. The crime classification from yesterday remains, says John Andåker, head of the investigation section at the police.
The police say that after the incident they arrested a person in connection with the incident – who was then released after questioning.
– We are early in the investigation and will not go out with so many details because it could risk complicating the investigation, says John Andåker.
Not active in Norrköping
According to the police, the freed person is not a native of Norrköping, nor is he active there.
– We currently see the incident as an isolated incident. The released person is serving a prison sentence and the released person, as far as we know, is not a resident of Norrköping nor active in Norrköping, says Peter Wahlberg.
The police are otherwise reticent and, among other things, do not want to answer whether the man is wanted abroad.
