It was on Saturday that the Norwegian-Swedish right-wing extremist Rasmus Paludans burned the Koran outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm. After the action, Ulf Kristersson wrote on his Twitter account, in English, that burning books that are sacred to many is a deeply offensive act.

“I want to express my sympathy to all Muslims who are offended by what happened in Stockholm today”.

In SVT’s Morgonstudion on Monday, Ulf Kristersson elaborated on his reasoning.

– These are legal things that should be legal, but everything that is legal must not be appreciated, said the prime minister.

“Is there a limit”

Now Jimmie Åkesson has responded to Kristersson’s statement via Facebook:

“I understand that the purpose is to pour oil on the waves regarding the relationship with Turkey at a critical stage for Sweden. But there is a limit to how a government should express itself, not least because Sweden has a domestic Islamist threat that cannot be underestimated.”

Åkesson adds that he will take up the situation with the Prime Minister and announce how he and the Sweden Democrats “view this type of insolence towards Islamist forces, in and outside of Sweden”.
