Amigos For Kids promotes a future free of child abuse

FLORIDA.- Within the framework of National Child Abuse Prevention Monththe non-profit organization Friends For Kidscarried out a walk and vigil in José Martí Park under the slogan “There is no excuse for child abuse!”with the goal of raising awareness about child abuse and neglect.

On this occasion, children from various public schools in Miami-Dade County actively participated, making banners about the prevention of child abuse. During the vigil, a solemn minute of silence was observed in memory of the children who have suffered abuse and a pinwheel garden was planted in their honor, symbolizing hope and the rebirth of a childhood free of violence.

“We share a responsibility to work together to ensure that children in our community can thrive and April is a time to collaborate to raise awareness and empower people to support families so children can grow up safe, healthy and happy.” said the president and CEO of Amigos for Kids, Karina Pavone.

Founded in 1991, Amigos For Kids is an organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect through programs that value children, strengthen families, and educate communities. With the support of volunteers and donors, the organization conducts awareness campaigns and fundraising events to support its mission.

Latin America and the Caribbean

According to data from UNICEFthe United Nations agency for children, Latin America and the Caribbean, is the region most affected by inequality and generalized violence, where boys and girls are victims of violence, exploitation and abuse.

Violence takes multiple forms: physical, sexual or emotional, and manifests itself in different environments, from home and school to the community and youth institutions. This situation violates the fundamental rights of millions of boys and girls, putting their well-being and survival at risk and limiting their integral development.

Faced with this alarming situation, UNICEF urgently calls to address this scourge with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach. This involves strengthening child protection, health, education and justice systems to prevent violence and provide appropriate responses to those who suffer it. Furthermore, it is essential to promote a cultural change that promotes respect and equality between all members of society.
