“Open book” is a cultural program where the City of Buenos Aires invites you to celebrate reading through shows, talks and different proposals over four days.

Filo.News was present at the inauguration of this activity on Thursday, April 20 at the Parque de la Estación Cultural Library.

The first activity of the day was a discussion on the role of librariesby the former general director of City Libraries, Josephine Delgado; in dialogue with Silvia Lacorazzathe president of the Association of Graduate Librarians of the Argentine Republic; Arnaldo Goenaga, Secretary of Institutional Relations of the Federation of Popular Libraries and President of the Alvear Library; and Sol Battinimanager of the City Public Library Network.

There they discussed the importance of accessing books and the social role of the city’s libraries. “We think of the library as equalizer of laws, we must guarantee the right for all people to access free libraries and popular libraries” stressed Josefina Delgado. In addition, Silvia Lacorazza stressed the fundamental role that librarians when bringing the reader closer to a book of interest.

There are currently 31 libraries in the City of Buenos Aires, of which 22 are open and the rest are under construction. Next Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m., the Mafalda Library will be inaugurated in the Mugica neighborhood.

The second inauguration activity was the presentation of the book “Libraries”, by Editorial Godot, through a talk with Martin Kohan y Maria Sonia Cristoff, authors of this anthology. The moderation was in charge of Victor Malumian.

The writers talked about their relationship with literature and libraries in their childhoods as well as their influences throughout their careers.

Maria Sonia Cristoff, author of “Mal de época”, “Desubicados”, “Derroche”, among others, commented that her mother was a great reader, and she was her guide, she constantly had conversations about literature. The writer even mentions: “One of the things I like most about reading is talking with others, sharing, commenting, and that comes from the relationship I have with my mother”. In turn, the writer, a native of Trelew, commented that in her city it was not easy to access books and she recalled the Agustín Álvarez Popular Library where she used in her beginnings as a reader.

For his part, Martin Kohan, author of “Twice June”, “Ciencias morales”, “Confesión”, among others, explained that although his parents did not have a concrete practice of reading, they always believed that literature was important. The writer listened a lot to the references of his father and He confessed that in his house there were certain economic limitations, but with books that did not happen.

“Open Book” activities will be held until April 23. On Saturday the Mafalda Library will be opened, and there will be children’s stories by Las Cuentandantes; then juggling and acrobatics, and finally, live music with a musical show by Rayos y Centellas.

On Sunday 23 in the Reading House Library There will be an audiovisual projection at 6:00 p.m. of “Hablás con alguien muerto?” produced by Mover La Lengua and Felipe Bozzani and will end with a performance of music, dance and poetry by Mover La Lengua.
