• Apple would prepare MacBooks with OLED screens as well as folding iPads
  • But these wouldn’t arrive until 2026
  • In the meantime, discover the new computers that Apple could offer this year

If you want to use a Mac with an OLED screen, or an iPad with a foldable screen, you’ll have to wait. The media have been talking about these improvements for Apple products for a long time. And apparently, it’s still relevant. However, according to a recent article from MacRumours, Macs with OLED displays and iPads with foldable screens won’t arrive until 2026.

Our colleagues relay an article from the OLEDInfo site, which quotes forecasts from Omdia to which it would have had access. The article evokes an exhibition of demand for OLED-type screens in the coming years. An increase that would be attributed to the PC and tablet markets, and which would be catalyzed by the transition of Apple computers and tablets from LCD or Mini-LED type screens to OLED screens.

Better screens

OLED screens, already used by the iPhone, are considered superior. They improve image quality, while reducing energy consumption. The good news is that Apple will start equipping its new iPads, starting with the iPad Pro, with OLED displays as early as next year.

Then, from 2026, Apple would also offer MacBook Pros with OLED screens. And at the end of 2026, the firm would finalize its transition from LCD or mini-LED screens to OLED technology. But that’s not all. In 2026, Apple could also launch a folding iPad Pro with a diagonal of 20 inches.

As usual, this information should be considered with caution, since it comes from an unofficial source. But in any case, the source relayed by MacRumours corroborates other sources. For example, the Korean media Etnews mentioned, in an article, the supply of Samsung and LG OLED screens which would be planned for an iPad whose release is scheduled for 2024. It also mentioned the possibility of a MacBook with OLED screen in 2026.

And similarly, in a tweet, analyst Ross Young also indicated that Apple would not make its transition from MacBooks to OLED technology before 2026. In essence, many sources agree on this timetable.

In the meantime, the next Macs are becoming clearer

There are also reports of Macs that Apple may release in the near future. In a recent newsletter, for example, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman discussed a 15-inch MacBook Air, a new 13-inch MacBook Air, an entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro, a 14-inch iMac, a Mac Pro with an Apple Silicon chip, and new high-end MacBook Pros in the works.

And by the way, it’s possible that recently some of these new Macs have leaked. Indeed, on Twitter, a developer indicates that by digging into the code of the Locate functionality. Specifically, the code refers to devices called “Mac14.8, Mac14.13 and Mac14.14”. And since location features are disabled by code, it’s likely not new MacBooks, but new desktop Macs.

In any case, Apple would really need to revitalize its Macs. While the firm seemed immune to the crisis in 2022, in the first quarter Mac shipments fell 40.5%, according to IDC estimates. The computer market fell by 29% during this period. According to IDC, this first quarter marked the end of the period of increased demand for computers, triggered by the health crisis, and the return to patterns of the pre-COVID era.
