After India, iPhone 14s are currently being manufactured in Brazil. Apple wants to reduce its dependence on China for the production of its iPhones.
Apple aims to gradually reduce its dependence on China for the production of its iPhones. The Cupertino company has therefore already begun to relocate part of the manufacturing iPhone 14. China still manufactures the majority of the Apple brand’s products, but other countries have also started manufacturing iPhones. From now on, Brazil makes iPhone 14s for Apple.
In April, India produced 7% of all iPhones released globally. These are mostly iPhone 14 and 14 Plus which are assembled in Indian factories. The production of iPhone 14 Pro et Pro Max is for the moment still reserved for China.
Only the standard iPhone 14 model is made in Brazil
In Brazil, a user was surprised to discover that his new iPhone had been assembled locally. He offered himself a blue iPhone 14 with 128 GB of storage. The box of this one says it was ” assembled in Brazil by Foxconn Brazil in São Paulo. Foxconn is Apple’s main supplier worldwide.
Moreover, the number of his iPhone 14 ends in “BR/A”, which also confirms that it was made in Brazil. The base iPhone 14 would apparently the only model to be assembled on site. Brazilian blog MacMagazine checked the numbers of the iPhone 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max that were made there, but these three models are identified by “BZ/A” or “BE/A”. This means they are from China.
Apple therefore manufactures a few iPhones in Brazil despite the fine of 2.36 million euros imposed on it last year for selling iPhones 12 and 13 without a charger. Weeks later, hundreds of iPhones sold without chargers were seized from stores across the country. This isn’t the first time Apple has made iPhones in Brazil, though. iPhone SE and iPhone 13 have been produced in Brazil to avoid high government taxes on imported products. Brazilian users can thus buy iPhones at more reasonable prices in relation to their economic situation.
