The rumors about a mixed reality headset from Apple continue. Mark Gurman now claims in one of its regular newslettersthat the wearable from Cupertino will be launched in 2023. Apple wants to focus strongly on the new product. But that will also mean that there could be a little lack of new announcements this year.

According to Gurman, Apple is currently planning to introduce the mixed reality headset in spring 2023 – before the WWDC (World Developers Conference) 2023 in June. Some major developers are said to have already received reference devices to start developing their apps. Internally, the code name of the wearable’s operating system is said to be “Borealis”. Apple will publicly present the software platform as xrOS.

The MR headset itself is said to be marketed as “Apple Reality Pro”. Even if the presentation will take place in spring 2023, delivery to end customers should not start until autumn. In order to finally be able to unveil the headset after several postponements, according to Gurman, Apple paid a very high price and had to withdraw some resources from other departments. That’s why there will be new MacBook Pros this year, for example, but they should use the same designs as the current 14 and 16-inch models. The M2 Pro and M2 Max will be new as SoCs in particular.

On the other hand, Apple had to cancel a high-end Mac Pro with 48 CPU and 152 graphics cores. But there will be a variant with an M2 Ultra. But here too, no changes in aesthetics are to be expected if you compare with the last model from 2019. A new iMac Pro, on the other hand, will probably no longer be available in Gurman 2023. Rather expect a new 15-inch MacBook Air for this year. When it comes to major updates for the iPads, on the other hand, you will have to wait until 2024.

In general, he does not expect any major changes for the AirPods in 2023, and the new Apple Watch of this year will also only be a small evolution. On the other hand, there will be a larger HomePod again, but it will not be revolutionary. New Apple TV? 2024 at the earliest. In general, 2023 could be a big thing for Apple in terms of mixed reality, but otherwise it would be more characterized by evolutions.
