Have you ever dreamed of being able to smell the rotting zombies in Resident Evil, or the sweat from Blanka’s armpits? Then let us present the latest in the line of crazy accessories you didn’t know existed but now need in your life. During the CES fair, the Japanese startup company showed its Aroma Shooter Wearable. A device that spreads fragrance (or stench) based on the game you’re playing and aims to increase the sense of presence.

According to the company, it’s the world’s first scent-based gaming and movie platform and uses cartridges that shoot scent particles at your face. The device works like a collar you wear around your head and the company offers more than 100 different ampoules with scents ranging from coffee to ocean and everything in between. You can check out their concept video here.

The company plans to hold a crowdfunding campaign to realize the Aroma Shooter Wearable for VR and AR. But already now you can buy their stationary Aroma Shooter 2 with six scent ampoules for SEK 10,000. Which bargain. Loose fragrance ampoules can also be bought for around SEK 550 each.

What in the gaming world would you most like to be able to smell, and are you tempted to buy the Aroma Shooter?

Mäki takes two.
