Arsenal strengthened their leading position in the English Premier League as Tottenham fell 2-0 in the north London derby.

Arsenal have not won the Premier League since 2004, but with each passing round it becomes increasingly clear that the “Gunners” will take home the trophy after a long wait.

After just over a quarter of an hour of play, Arsenal took the lead after Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Loris spilled Bukayo Saka’s cross into his own goal after already looking shaky in a sequence earlier.

Just before half-time, Arsenal’s hot Norwegian Martin Ødegaard dreamed an opportunistic long shot that found itself low in the Tottenham cage. In the second half, the home side lifted a level, but thanks to some brilliant saves from Aaron Ramsdale, Arsenal claimed their first away win against Tottenham since 2014.

After the final whistle, chaotic scenes unfolded as Ramsdale was kicked in the back by a Tottenham supporter as he retrieved his water bottle from behind the goal, this after some well-chosen words were exchanged with Tottenham striker Richarlison.

– What an idiot, commented the legendary Gary Neville during the event in the English Sky Sports broadcast.

The win extends Arsenal’s league lead to eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

Swedish success in Newcastle after bizarre penalty

Before the season, the fairly uneventful big meeting between league third Newcastle and sixth Fulham ended with a home victory after Swedish striker Alexander Isak was served an empty cage in front of him and scored the winning goal for Newcastle in the eleventh hour of the match.

Fulham had the chance to take the lead with 20 minutes to play after the team were awarded a penalty. Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has scored 11 goals for Fulham this season, stumbled in the tackle and shot with his right foot via his left foot into the Newcastle goal.

After wild protests and a VAR review, the goal was ruled out for taking a double touch and instead a free kick for Newcastle. You can see the bizarre situation here (Viaplay).

Newcastle kept a clean sheet for the fifth game in a row, which is the first time in the club’s history. The team is also now without a loss in the Premier League in 14 consecutive games, which is tantamount to the club record.

Graham Potter can breathe a sigh of relief after long-awaited victory

Chelsea have recently gone very badly under head coach Graham Potter, who managed to guide the team to only one win in the last eight games. Now the team would be pitted against another out-of-form team in the form of Crystal Palace, who only managed one win in the last six games.

After a shaky first half from both parties and exchange of chances, everyone around Chelsea could breathe a sigh of relief when the German Kai Havertz headed in Hakim Ziyech’s cross and thus also scored the winning goal.

Havertz has endured a huge slump in form this season with just two goals in his last ten games.

Next round, Chelsea face a huge test in the form of Liverpool, who have also been really slow in the Premier League and are in ninth place, ahead of Chelsea in tenth.
