A lot happened at FC Bayern in the last few meters of the January transfer window. In the shadow of the loan transfer from star full-back João Cancelo (28), Inter Milan vigorously courted Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard (26). A departure of the Frenchman at the halfway point of the season was out of the question for sports director Hasan Salihamidzic and his colleagues.
“Benji is a very important, variable player for us on defense. We have very big goals this season, so we don’t want to and can’t do without him.”the Bayern head of sport emphasizes to the ‘Sport Bild’ and adds: “Financially, the request was even attractive, but the sporting aspect always comes first for us.”
Chosen Skriniar successor
At the end of January, Inter was looking for a replacement for defender Milan Skriniar (27), who had signed a contract with Paris St. Germain from the summer. Those involved would have preferred the transfer to the French capital – but as mentioned, Bavaria did not let the chosen successor move to the fashion city.
Skriniar will remain with the Nerazzurri until the end of the season and contract, while Pavard (contract until 2024) will have to finish the season in Munich. Salihamidzic builds on his vice world champion: “Benji is a special player who is sensitive and needs affection. I also know what a big heart he has and what he can achieve.”
