The writer and screenwriter Peter Turrini will be awarded the Axel Corti Prize 2023. The award, presented by the Austrian Conference for Adult Education as part of the 55th television prize, is given to him for “his socio-political commitment and his always critical view of our country,” according to a broadcast today.

Turrini is described by the jury as “a special and particularly outstanding writer and screenwriter of our time”. “His ‘Alpen- und Arbeitersaga’ shaped the history of several generations and interested in the socio-historical development of Austria.”

Born in Carinthia, he wrote dozens of plays, books, opera libretti, radio plays and screenplays. His first play “Rozznjogd”, which premiered in 1971 at the Volkstheater in Vienna, made him famous. His works have been translated into over 30 languages ​​and his plays are performed worldwide.

The presentation of the award will take place on June 29th in Vienna’s Radiokulturhaus. At the same time, the winners of the other adult education television prizes will be announced, namely in the categories of documentary, television film and broadcast series or broadcast formats. The awards are given by the ten associations of the Austrian Conference for Adult Education (KEBÖ).
