After three years of the compulsory Corona break, it is early Sunday noon (May 7, 2023) again the World Heritage Run started in Bamberg. In dry weather and occasional sun, rallied again many spectators in the city center, to cheer on the participants and enjoy the varied supporting programme. +++ 3.20 p.m .: Several runners fell over due to muggy weather – BRK and police with a balance sheet

The Brose run started at 2.30 p.m. A 10.7 kilometer route from St. Mark’s Square via the cathedral, along the Regnitz to the finish at Maxplatz awaits the participants. At 3.30 p.m. the eagerly awaited half marathon on the Altenburg begins. However, the muggy climate causes problems for some participants, as one BRK employee told us inFranken.de explained. “Some have already fallen over because of the weather, but the situation is not dramatic overall,” she explains.

A spokesman for the Bamberg police from the operation room in the city center says in a first on-site assessment that you have “everything under control so far” and that it is a “very peaceful process”. Only at the beginning there were some difficulties in building the barrier around the running area. “One or the other driver tried to drive through.”

The Wieland run ended with a happy winner. Winner Fynn Becker spoke to inFranken.de about a run that was “fun” – even if the route was “challenging in the middle”.

+++ 2.25 p.m .: World Heritage Run 2023 – first assessment of runs and mood

As a spokesman for the Bamberg police said inFranken.de reports that there have been no special incidents so far. “There were a few ‘missing children’ in the turmoil who were reported, but that was cleared up more quickly, which is why there were no police measures. Otherwise we are very satisfied, it’s been an all-round successful run so far,” said the spokesman.

As our reporter reports on site, the infrastructure is well developed according to first impressions. For example, plenty of water was provided for the participants in the World Heritage run, and despite the large crowds in the city, there were no queues in front of the toilets at midday. The Bamberg World Heritage Run is on the road internationally again this year. Several runners from the partner city of Mondez in France started the Wieland run at 2 p.m. – and even brought support from home.

Meanwhile, the children’s and schoolchildren’s runs have already taken place. Timm Giehler, a student in class 2a at the Bischberg elementary school, won the 1.6-kilometre fox run. Luis Lutter from the Kaulberg School won the Bosch school run with a time of 6 minutes and 31 seconds. Noah Möller from the Meranier-Gymnasium in Lichtenfels won the Bambit student run over a distance of 4.1 kilometers.
