Today marks 16 years since Apple CEO Steve Jobs took the stage at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, California and introduced the iPhone to the world for the first time. A smartphone that now sells for more than €40,000 at auction.

Standing on stage at Macworld Expo, Jobs spoke words that went down in history. ” Today, Apple will reinvent the telephone said Jobs, unveiling the iPhone that stood out given, at the time, its futuristic design, a multi-touch screen without a physical keyboard and iPhoneOS, a true mobile operating system.

The iPhone is 16 years old

At the time, Steve Jobs described the ‌iPhone‌ as an iPod with touch controls, a telephone, and a revolutionary device for going online. Three distinct areas that no device at the time had managed to offer at the same time. The original iPhone had a 3.5-inch LCD screen, a 2-megapixel camera, and an aluminum and plastic body.

Every year since the first ‌iPhone‌, Apple has continued to update it with new features. The first major redesign came with the iPhone 4 in 2010, three years after the ‌first model’s introduction. It will have marked a turning point in the history of the iPhone, offering an all-new design with flat edges, a Retina display, the A4 processor, a 5 megapixel camera, an LED flash, and more.

Two years later, the iPhone 5 marked another redesign for the iPhone. The ” thinnest smartphone in the world as Steve Jobs called it at the time, offered an 8-megapixel iSight camera and more. In the years that followed, Apple introduced several innovations that still endure today, such as Touch ID and Face ID.

Fast forward to today, the ‌iPhone‌ lineup includes five different models: the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max. Current iPhones include features unthinkable at the time: all-screen display without home button and thin bezels, facial recognition, 4K video recording, 48MP camera, Dynamic Island, refresh rate display higher, in addition to all the features and capabilities of iOS 16. We just have to wait for the release of the iPhone 15 to see what happens next.
