Basic subscription of Netflix in Canada is withdrawn

Redacción.- Netflix is removing Basic subscription in Canada, leaving users one less option to choose from and limiting the cheapest choice to the one that includes advertising content.

The technology company sees in the Standard plan with ads one of the pillars that will promote the growth of users and income from the streaming content platform. In Spain, It is available from November 2022, and has a cost of 5.49 euros per month. Although it has a limited catalog, it supports playback on Full HD (1080p).

This Standard plan with ads coexists with the Basic plan, in this case without advertising, which has a slightly higher price: 7.99 euros in Spain, with access to the complete catalog and downloads, but with lower quality (HD, 720p).

Netflix has decided to withdraw this latest Basic plan where it is priced at $9.99. This no longer appears for new subscribers and in the near future it will also disappear for existing users who have signed up for it, as a spokesperson has confirmed to The Canadian Press.

In this way, new users of the platform will have to choose between the Standard plan with ads (US$5.99), as the cheapest option, and the following two options: Standard (US$16.49) or Premium (US$20,99).
