Scheduled for worldwide release on May 25, Batsugun Saturn Tribute Boosted is the first game in a new lineup that, as the name suggests, will feature ports of the Saturn enhanced with new features. First released in arcades before being ported to the Sega console, batgun clear the genre manic shooter and is therefore aimed at those who are not afraid to see the screen completely overloaded. This vertical shoot’em up is also the last released by Toaplan before the fall of the studio, whose members will perpetuate their love of the genre by founding the Cave studio in stride.

Endowed with a beautiful realization, batgun offers to choose between 3 ships with identical characteristics (only the end changes according to the pilot chosen among the 6 available). By cleaning up with his shots and his bombs, the player collects the usual improvements but also experience points, which are counted separately from the traditional score. When the experience gauge reaches a certain point, the ship evolves and gains power, like an RPG character.

Batsugun Saturn Tribute Boosted includes the Original mode of the arcade machine with its 5 levels and its unique end and the Special mode of the Saturn, more complete and balanced, which prolongs the pleasure by repeating the 5 levels of the game in a loop (for 14 levels at the total). As for the new features of this modern port, they include a new interface, a ranked online mode and many comfort options presented in the trailer, including the ability to rewind the action after a mistake.

Far from being content to cover the music of Yoshitatsu Sakai, City Connection has called on five composers whose work ranges from the 1980s to the 2020s: Shinji Hosoe, Yosuke Yasui, Hagane, Daisuke Matsumoto and WASi303. These five artists, all of whom specialize in shoot’em up, have made arrangements for this new version, arrangements which will be compiled on the CD supplied with the special edition of the game. Because yes, in Japan, Batsugun Saturn Tribute Boosted will be entitled to a physical release in standard edition (4,180 yen) and special edition (7,480 yen) on PlayStation 4 and Switch. For import enthusiasts, the commercial links appear on the official site Game.

Note that the batgun included in the mini Sega Astro City Mini V is the original arcade version and therefore does not offer the new features of the Saturn port and even less the additions of this Saturn Tribute Boosted edition.
